Examinations

Regular dental examinations are the main way to catch early signs of any problems before they become serious. We recommend examinations every 3 – 12 months depending on your dental status.

At your dental examination we’ll look for signs of problems, we’ll address plaque build up, dental decay, gum disease, soft tissue changes (changes in the lips, tongue and inside of cheeks) and early signs of cancer. We will also address any concerns you may have such as; cosmetic and functional problems for example eating and chewing.

We fully investigate dental and facial pain and have up-to-date digital radiographic techniques, these are shown to you on high resolution medical monitor screens. We can also give you advice on looking after your teeth and gums and recommend which oral health products to use.

Periodontics

We can spot warning signs to identify patients likely to be susceptible to Peridontitis (gum disease). Our team look out for these signs at routine examinations and check-ups to ensure you get the care you need.

Regular monitoring of those at risk is so important. It means we can start treatment at the first sign of any problems, minimising your discomfort.

Our Hygienists and Dentists work together to create a plan that will effectively treat Periodontitis. Ongoing care for periodontically susceptible patients is essential. It is a life long journey and needs to be monitored.

Endodontics

We know Endodontics or root canal work may be a daunting prospect. We can reassure you that our experienced team are both careful and thorough. And, we use the latest painless dentistry techniques for your comfort.

Endodontics removes pulp tissue that’s infected with bacteria from within a tooth. As the internal structure of each tooth is very complex this can be a difficult job.

To be sure all the tissue has been effectively removed we use an operating microscope. This helps us see the area more clearly during the procedure. We also take several digital radiographs (x-rays) during the treatment process.

Making sure the tooth is thoroughly clean and disinfected is very important to avoid recurring problems.

We can reassure you that our experienced team are both careful and thorough.

Prosthodontics

When we need to replace missing teeth we use prosthodontics techniques.

This area of dentistry is advancing fast. We use the latest scanning and computer guided technology to create crowns, bridges and veneers with pinpoint accuracy.

We have more choice in materials and adhesives than ever, so less tooth preparation is needed to get perfect results.

John McInerney attends and gives long-term postgraduate training courses in prosthodontics and implant dentistry to stay at the forefront of developments in the field.

This means we can offer cosmetic and implant dentistry that is up-to-date and reliable.

We use our expertise and finesse to make dentures that are almost undetectable.
We work closely with our own in house Clinical Technician Steve Martin.

Full or partial dentures are created using the latest materials for a natural look and feel. We use hidden anchors and lightweight bases for your comfort. We sometimes use implants for a more secure, stable fit.

Our well-constructed dentures are designed to fit so that you can eat, speak and smile with confidence.

Sports Mouth Guard

If you take part in contact sports such as rugby, boxing or martial arts, a sports mouth guard is vital.

A blow to the face can result in severe damage to your teeth and jaw. A mouth guard that’s properly shaped to fit acts as a shock absorber, spreading the force of impact. It protects your teeth and can even help to prevent concussion.

We make your mouth guard from a mould of your mouth for a perfect fit. We use lightweight laminate that is very strong but also comfortable to wear.

A well fitting mouth guard lets you breathe and talk easily so you can stay safe and focus on winning!

Snoring Devices

Snoring is caused by a partial closure of your airway during sleep due to a relaxation of the muscles in your neck, the soft tissue then vibrates to cause the sound of snoring. One kind of device used to alleviate snoring is Sleepwell, a light-weight mouth piece, which is custom-made for each patient to wear comfortably at night.

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) happens when a snorer “stops snoring” and also “stops breathing” only to “start snoring and breathing again” a few seconds later. Everytime we stop breathing (Apnoea) our bodies are starved of oxygen, our brain instructs our body to partially awaken by releasing adrenalin.

OSA robs the snorer of sleep, leaving them with a lack of energy the next day, less effectiveness at work and poor motivation.

We recommend a sleep study undertaken by a recorder, which is small, lightweight and easy to wear while you are sleeping in the comfort of your own home.

The sleep study allows data to be collected and assessed by a trained Physician.

Tooth grinding and clenching (bruxism)

Tooth grinding and clenching can cause aching and sensitive teeth, frequent toothaches, tension headaches, tooth wear and breakages, migraines and difficulties opening your mouth.  These are all caused by the hyper-activity of the jaw muscles, which generally occur during sleep.

We recommend mini-splints to prevent the source of the problem. The sleep clinch inhibitor SCi and SCi+ splints are small splints that fit over your front teeth and prevent tooth grinding and clenching.

We will have records taken of your teeth before submitting these to a laboratory to tailor make a splint.
